Taking The Steps To Reconnect With a Bigger Vision
A potential new client came to me needing guidance:
Although they held a clear vision for their future, they felt uncertain about how to move forward.
The client described dreams of creating meaningful work with authentic people, travelling, and ultimately building a creative life on their own terms. However, personal challenges had left them feeling far away from the future they wanted to create.
When asked how connected they felt to their dream, they rated themselves at just one out of ten.
Exploring the Gap Between Vision and Reality
During our short 30 minute introductory meeting, we were able to touch on the emotional distance between where the client was and where they wanted to be.
Like many creatives, they were carrying concerns about competition, rejection, and whether there was space for them within a highly competitive industry.
I introduced to them a different perspective.
Instead of asking:
“How do I compete?”
The client was encouraged to consider:
“How do I become more fully myself?”
and:
A New Perspective on Rejection
Rather than seeing rejection as proof of not being good enough, the client was encouraged to view it as part of the process of finding the right opportunities, collaborations, and audiences.
Authenticity is often a creative person’s greatest strength. No one else can offer the exact combination of experiences, perspectives, talents, and energy that you bring.
When people show up fully as themselves, they naturally become more visible to the opportunities that are DESTINED for them and no one else.
Rediscovering Purpose
As the conversation continued, the client reflected on the deeper reason behind their desire to pursue their creative journey
What emerged was not a desire for recognition or status, but a genuine wish to bring people together through storytelling, creativity, and shared human experiences.
This deeper purpose is an important reminder that often our dreams should be rooted in contribution, connection, and impact. ‘Clout’ and other external measures of success’ have been sold to us as the goal versus the byproduct of aligned visibility and purpose which naturally develops community and attention.
Outcome
By the end of this short introductory session, the focus had shifted from external obstacles towards reconnecting with personal purpose and possibility.
The client should hopefully begin to see that the journey forward is not about becoming someone different, but about trusting, expressing and OWNING who they already are.
Rather than measuring success through comparison, focus on building confidence, by taking small steps towards a future that felt meaningful and aligned.
Reflection
Many creatives lose sight of their dreams when challenges, rejection, or difficult life experiences create distance between who they are and who they hope to become.
Sometimes the most important step is not finding the perfect opportunity.
It is remembering why the dream mattered in the first place.
“Your greatest advantage is not being better than everyone else. It is being more fully yourself.”
